ORDERS, DELIVERIES & RETURNS
Can I track my order?
To ensure we provide you with a delivery service that is reliable but also comes at a reasonable price, we have selected a variety of untracked delivery options from two major courier companies – Royal Mail and DPD. Find out more about our delivery options in our Shipping & Delivery page.
With DPD specifically, when you provide your email address or mobile number at checkout, the courier will inform you about the estimated hourly slot via email or SMS on the day of delivery. If this doesn’t fit in with your schedule, you can provide them with a different time or date… easy!
You can find all our delivery options and the related charges in our Shipping & Delivery page.
For orders that exceed the weight/volume limits and for deliveries outside of Europe, you will not be able to place your order directly on our website… but this doesn’t mean we don’t want to ship to you! Just get in touch with our Support Team and we will see what we can do for you.
Do you charge for returns?
There are several scenarios in which you may wish to return your order. The procedure and charge (if any) change depending on the situation. To find out more, visit our Returns page.
What shall I do if my order arrives damaged?
First of all, don’t worry! Unfortunately, we know things can sometimes go wrong, so we have a dedicated procedure in place to solve this: please read the paragraph Cancellation due to damaged products in our Returns page.
Can I edit my order?
If you realise some details in your order are wrong (products ordered, delivery address, etc.), you should contact our Support Team ASAP. We cannot guarantee we will be able to amend your order, but if it hasn’t been processed yet we will do our best to help you out.
Do you ship outside the U.K.?
Yep, we send to most countries in Europe, up to a certain weight/volume limit. For deliveries outside of Europe, you will not be able to place your order directly on our website… but this doesn’t mean we don’t want to ship to you! Just get in touch with our Support Team and we will see what we can do for you.
Why is plastic bad? Is it bad only for the environment or also for me?
So, let’s break this down…
Is plastic bad for the environment?
Plastic can take over a thousand years (yes, that’s more than 1-0-0-0 years) to biodegrade and, once broken down, it will still leave toxins behind. Sadly, humankind are using so much plastic that we simply cannot dispose of it quickly enough. This is drastically threatening wildlife in both the sea and the land (including our own species). Isn’t it about time we all looked at the small changes we can make to our daily lives to help make a difference?
Is plastic bad for me?
There are so many different types of plastic and they all have varying properties. What the majority have in common is that they are made from synthetic ingredients – predominantly oil based – and pose a potential health risk when ingested.
Although at times using a little bit of plastic is still necessary to create fully functional products (but when this is the case, we go completely BPA-free and recyclable!), we already offer lots of products that are 100% natural and 100% biodegradable (have a look at our 100% Natural Collection) – and more are coming soon so watch this space!
In summary if it is not natural, it is not great – neither for you, nor for the environment.
What is the product guarantee/warrantee?
All our products are covered against a manufacturing defect for up to 2 years. If you are not entirely chuffed with your new Smidge product just get in touch with our Support Team.
If they are good for the environment then why do your travel cups have plastid lids?
Where possible we will always manufacture from natural materials, but there are times when manufacturing technologies are just not advanced enough yet to create a functional product only made of 100% natural materials, so we have to compromise a little. Our travel coffee cup lids are made from a BPA-free recyclable plastic, which allows them to be 100% leak proof and help reduce the use of single-use travel cups and single use coffee cups.
Do the insulated double wall and natural collection colours match?
We like to think so. You see each material accepts and displays the same colour in different ways so there is a degree of variation in sharpness and brightness depending on the product type. For example, our insulated bottles and travel cups render colours in a much punchier way than our natural collection products. You can explore our product collections by colour here.
How long do they stay hot?
Bottles & Travel cups – We claim “stay hot or cold for up to 6 hours”, but staying hot is a “wooly” term. The science bit: we measure that there is only a 20% drop in original temperature over a 6 hour period. So one could claim they stay “warm” for 12 hours.
How long do they stay cold?
Bottles & Travel cups – We claim “stay hot or cold for up to 6 hours”, but how cold is cold? The science bit: we measure that there is only a 20% drop in original temperature over a 6 hour period. So one could claim they stay “chill” for 12 hours. Cold or chill, your Smidge bottle will still be as cool as a cucumber after a days outing.
Does the paint fade in the dishwasher?
Insulated bottles and travel coffee cups only – yep they certainly do, modern dishwashers are tough places to survive these days! So if you like the bright shine on your new bottle or cup, best to just dip it in the sink from time to time.
All other products – to ensure the product you are buying is dishwasher safe, just look for the ‘Dishwasher Safe’ tick under ‘Features’ on the product page.
Are they totally leak proof?
Insulated bottles & travel cups – Yep, so long as you tighten the lid enough. If the cup is weeping, it’s only upset ‘cause you didn’t close it properly so give it another go and you’ll both set off with a smile on your faces. Top tip – we always tilt upside down to check before taking on a trip.
Natural coffee cups – Even though they have a screw-top lid and are therefore more secure than the normal push-on lid counterparts, the coffee cups will cry you a river if turned upside down. There are two areas to check to ensure normal usage doesn’t cause any tears: make sure the lid has been secured correctly and the silicone stopper is pressed into the drinking spout.
How do I clean them?
Depends on the product in question – instead of listing them all here, it’s just easier if you check the specific product page for details.
How do I clean the inside of my bottle?
Here’s your step-by-step guide to utmost cleanliness:
1. Rinse thoroughly;
2. Add washing liquid and fill up halfway;
3. Close the lid and shake;
4. Rinse thoroughly.
Also, since you’re at it, don’t forget to give the bottle head a good scrub.
My lid has broken, can I get a spare?
No worries, we stock most spare parts, just drop our Support Team a line.
Can I take my Smidge bottle and/or coffee cup through airport security?
If the bottle/coffee cup is empty, you should normally be able to take it through airport security. Unfortunately, some airports have their own security policy as well as some countries being stricter as to what you can bring with you, so we suggest you check the airport policy before you are off. Oh, and have a safe trip! :)
THE SMIDGE NATURAL COLLECTION
What is the Smidge Natural Collection made from?
The Smidge Natural Collection is made from natural plant materials derived from corn. Sadly we can’t tell you exactly what the ingredients are as this is a “first to market” development – kind of like the Coke and Nutella recipes. For your peace of mind, all products have been thoroughly tested and certified and we wouldn’t be able to classify this collection as 100% natural if this wasn’t true.
I don’t like using plastics, is your Natural Collection safe for my children to eat off?
Absolutely, in fact if your children were really hungry they could eat the plate and it would count as one of their five a day! #jokingnotjoking
Are the Smidge Natural Coffee Cups made from bamboo?
Nope, the Smidge coffee cups are actually 100% natural. You see, most bamboo cups have 30% of plastic/melamine in (but they don’t tell you that). Top Tip – a simple test is to ask whether it is microwave safe. If yes (like ours), then it is not made from bamboo.
Difference between the Smidge Natural Coffee Cups and other coffee cups in different materials?
The Smidge Natural Coffee Cup is the first reusable coffee cup in the market that is made from 100% natural plant material. So if you are looking for a gorgeous coffee cup with no toxins leaching onto your food or polluting the environment, you and the Smidge Coffee Cup are a match made in heaven!
There are so many reusable cups available on the market which come in all types of materials – from plastic, stainless steel, porcelain, glass to composites such as bamboo and polymers. Here are the pros and cons of the most common materials, so you can make a better informed decision when you purchase your cup of choice.
Plastic reusable coffee cups:
Pros: cheap and easy to manufacture, microwave safe, mostly dishwasher safe.
Cons: synthetic, will not biodegrade, degrades overtime and particles will be found in food as well as toxins remain in the environment.
Porcelain & Glass reusable coffee cups:
Pros: easy to manufacture, microwave safe, dishwasher safe, will last a long time.
Cons: fragile, will not biodegrade.
Stainless Steel reusable coffee cups:
Pros: easy to manufacture, typically double walled (i.e. will keep your drink hot or cold for a few hours), mostly dishwasher safe, will last a long time.
Cons: not microwave safe, will not biodegrade.
Composites – such as Bamboo reusable coffee cups:
Pros: mostly dishwasher safe.
Cons: not microwave safe, takes a long time to biodegrade and will leave plastic toxins in the environment.
Smidge Natural reusable coffee cups:
Pros: 100% natural, absolutely no plastics or toxins, microwave safe, dishwasher safe, fully biodegradable.
Cons: hard to manufacture… but hey, where there’s a will, there’s a way!
What is the lifespan of the Smidge Natural Collection products? How long do they last for everyday use?
If you look after them, they will look after you, so we would see no reason that the product will not last a lifetime.
Coffee cups only – you may need to upgrade the seal in the underside of the lid after a few years. These are available, just contact our Support Team.
What about the silicone, can that be recycled?
Yep, it is a natural product and can be recycled and reused like glass, but don’t forget to check with your local council if they have the facilities to process it before you put it in your recycling bin.
Are the products from the Natural Collection shatterproof?
They are not as resilient as plastic (which is a direct consequence of being 100% natural) but they are also not as delicate as china or porcelain, so they will put up with some mistreatment, but not too much. Also worth noting – if cold, they do become more brittle… but hey, who doesn’t get a bit edgy when they are feeling cold and miserable?
Do they discolour or taint with certain foods, such as tomato sauce, beetroot, turmeric etc.?
Yes, but so do most things! If you give it a clean straight after use, you won’t give the stain any time to settle in. If a stain persists, simply use an abrasive cleaner.
